Junoon Restaurant Review
Michelin star rated, Junoon is a gourmet Indian restaurant that is perfect for both the Indian food novice and the lover of all things curry and spice.
Located in the Flatiron district of New York, Junoon has a calm, zen like ambience, perfect for those wanting to have a quiet, romantic meal.
The menu boasts a modern Indian cuisine led by chef Vikas Khanna and his dishes range from the super exotic, Eggplant Chaat to the different, Chipotle Chicken Tikka.
For the appetizer I decided to try the Eggplant Chaat. Baby eggplant is sliced and fried, almost resembling a potato chip. It is then coated with yogurt, chutney, herbs and onion. Simple, bold and delicious.
Another appetizer for the tasting was Piri-Piri Shrimp which is a Goan chili sauce. It was served with avocado mousse and a grapefruit salad for added tartness. Delicious.
The main course dishes are designed for sharing. On the table was Kerala Shrimp Curry and Murg Lababdar which is Junoon’s version of Chicken Tikka or Butter Chicken.
And of course, the garlic naan which was nice and crispy.
In my experience, Indian restaurants normally don’t have great desserts but Junoon was the exception with their delicious Passionfruit Mousse and Rice Pudding. The Rice Pudding was a clear standout as normally this bland ‘baby-food’ dish fails to impress but Junoon’s version was amazing.
Junoon does an excellent job of taking humble Indian cuisine and making it both modern and fancy. The menu is simple and exotic, offering something for everyone.
